I'll let Doug share that if he feels like it :) I'm systematically instrumenting sections of code with <cftimer label="..." type="debug"> to find out what is taking time on a variety of operations. I've already implemented caching on Dao, Gateway and Metadata object fetches that has quite a big impact on performance (and, in particular, negates the overhead of the current situation that calls createMetadata() twice on each primary operation!).
