I actually do my development in "production" mode, I only use
"development" mode when I make a change to the DB.  When I'm writing
custom methods for Records, Gateways or whatever I leave reactor in
production mode and just instantiate a new reactorFactory for each
request.

I find this keeps me twiddling my thumbs a lot less ;)
For production systems, also turn on the trusted template cache in CF
admin is possible.
