Whups, I need to post corrections to my previous post.

I meant ... gives "$" the edge, not ":", since ...

I said:

I should note that I *think* that in MELT and SMT-LIB, a leading ":" has 
special meaning by convention; I don't remember it having a deeper notational 
meaning.

BitC abandoned s-expressions, probably because they were too painful to use 
(sound familiar?).  It handled ":" specially.  Since it's abandoned, that 
probably doesn't matter.
