And it results in a ton of work and NO flicker whatsoever when scrolling, resizing, etc

Flicker on Windows has been far and above my biggest headache on that platform. I am really hoping that RS is able to make some of this easier for us over time. In some ways they have already... by implementing the new canvas property "Erasebackground" recently, for example. Even so... display problems in Windows, in one form or another, have certainly been where I spend the bulk of my Windows work. Its really no fun; I'd rather be working on new, creative things rather than fighting with Windows to make it behave.

True.
If you start using the built in controls you pretty much get some kind of flickering fairly quickly.
