I think I'll chime in from the shadows:-) Some people are forgetting
what technology is about:
Change
You can not expect development tools to stand still while technology
is blazing into the future. People that lament Apple's support (lack
thereof) for legacy systems need to realize that this is the cost of
innovation, for better or for worse. If you don't want to have to
change you application to accommodate new technologies, then you
obviously have a choice. Do it, or don't do it. The consequences of
either action are both good and bad. This is never going to change.
Saying that developers are at the mercy of software platforms goes
without saying. Cocoa, WinFX, and Java are not standing still and nor
should they. Indeed technology thrives on change. No one likes being
told that they have to rewrite their application yet again for
Mactels, but that is the cost of doing business. You will either
tolerate it or you will switch platforms, but you won't get Apple to
standstill.
