Make sure the code that reads your preferences does some reality
checking, i.e.: on which monitor is my window? is it the main monitor
with the menu bar? if yes then the menu bar must be taken into
account! In any case the code that reads the preferences should not
take the window position it reads in for granted.

I have one app that does not do this and tries to open a window
offscreen becuase that's where it last was
