Right. That is the #1 worst way to append text to an EditField.
In the embedded Language Reference, in the EditField Control page,
we can see - below the Methods entry - the AppendText Method that
say (once you click in the entry):

EditField.AppendText Method
Appends the passed text to the current Text.
Right. This is the best way to append text to an EditField.
The worst is that I do not found the AppendText Method in the Release notes :(
Hmm, it should be there somewhere, but then, maybe not -- mistakes
sometimes happen.
