Your history is all wrong. The first Mac was programmed with punchcards.

Even if Word was written in completely C they had to still use Pascal data types so it would work properly on the Mac. Remember that Word was the first Application written for the Mac so it probably was written in Pascal though MegaShaft had many options open to them.
