I am getting VERY annoyed with RB200* and RS today... as i said
earlier I'm trying to get a project done quickly and grabbing pieces
of old projects to do it... RB is is SUPPOSED to be a RAD environment...
I'm just about ready to go back to 5.5 to try and get decent workflow/
productivity... If i had a PC at home i would be considering VB at
this point.
The bug is that when you export or copy/past a folder only the folder
itself is is copied or exported, not it's contents, and you can't
drag/drop one between windows...
These have both been reported before:
Copy bug: http://www.realsoftware.com/feedback/viewreport.php?
reportid=ydoiafxi
This is a recent report so that does not have me upset... but the
export one:
http://www.realsoftware.com/feedback/viewreport.php?reportid=efawnliw
Was reported LAST June
The description was:
In RB 5.5, you could drag a folder from the project window out into
the Finder. This would export all the items (classes, modules, etc.)
in the folder. You could then drag the folder from the Finder into
the project window of another project. This allowed you to transfer
folders of classes from project to project.
In RB 2005, this is no longer possible, and the "Export" command does
not work on folders either. You can copy a folder, but it only copies
the folder, not its contents. The result of this is that there is no
way to transfer a folder of classes from one project to another.
If was FINALY evaluated 4 months later as:
REAL Software on 2005-10-14
You can export a folder by right-clicking on it in the project item
editor and selecting "Export."
And marked as Status: Fixed/Implemented
Which says to me that whoever evaluated did not so so in VERY cursory
manor not paying attention to the description... or it was fixed and
broken again... either way something so basic to workflow SHOULD have
been given more attention
If the testing was that cursory then a very bad workflow bug was
missed because of inattention ... and because of this ***4***
versions of RB got released without the bug getting fixed!
And if it was fixed and broken again source control at RS is awfully
poor...
A frustrated karen
