No, and it wouldn't be proper behavior to do so.  If a file has a
type, the type should be believed regardless of its extension.  A
JPEG file is a JPEG file even if I manually rename it to end in
".txt".

Ok, that makes sense... at least for type... but for creator it might not...

I've already run into issues where some programs that create "standard" files, such as JPEG, use a proper file type, but use their own creator code. Photoshop JPEG files have a different creator type than Preview JPEG files, for example. My "solution" up until now has been to keep adding their creator types to my file types list as I find these programs. I know that somewhere along the line, a customer will have trouble opening a file that was created with a program that I did not account for though. It seems to me that it would be better to just ignore the creator code altogether in certain circumstances - if only RB would let me. I realize the risks involved!
