Sorry to top post, but it makes more sense this way ...

I've got a 1.83 and the running of RB2006r1 is like the early Linux versions - slow, jerky, and easy to confuse by too many mouse clicks or movements. Built three tests apps and here are my results:

1: Simple Non-App project (new project, no changes, build)
        Run, Compile to launch
                G5DP 2.0 9 sec
                DC 1.83 15 sec
        Build Compile only
                G5DP 2.0 5 sec
                DC 1.83 7 sec

2: Single Window project with 30 controls
        Run, Compile to launch
                G5DP 2.0 13 sec
                DC 1.83 23 sec
        Build Compile only
                G5DP 2.0 7 sec
                DC 1.83 13 sec

3 Large multiwindow project (6.8MB .rbp)
        Run, Compile to launch
                G5DP 2.0 17 sec
                DC 1.83 46 sec
        Build Compile only
                G5DP 2.0 14 sec
                DC 1.83 22 sec

Not necessarily scientific, but a good seat-of-the-pants snapshot.

Keith,

Maybe I can offer a bit of RB2006 MacIntel experience...

I'm running RB2006 on a MacIntel 2ghz with 2gb of memory.
I can see no noticable change in performance to that of my previous Mac, a 1ghz G4 PowerBook - it's not faster, but nor do I notice a slowdown in comparison.

I was in a similar position where I need a new mac quickly, and had to decide between a G5 and a MacIntel. I chose the MacIntel for the long term benefit, knowing I'll have to bear with Rosetta in the meantime.

The Mac G5 Duo at work runs RB2006 quite noticibly faster, of course.

Maybe if you intend to buy again in 12 months anyway then the G5 might do given that Adobe and RB won't be having Universal Binaries in the near future...?

I know this was discussed a few weeks ago. I'm looking for an
update...

Is anyone running RB2006 on the last generation G5 iMacs and/or the
new
intel iMacs?

I know they need more memory to run RB well. I'm looking feedback on
saving/running/compiling speeds under Rosetta verses the G5 with
larger
projects.

I have to purchase an additional Mac in the next week or so. I'm
worn out
with the slowness of RB2006 on my G4DP 1.25 PowerMac so a 50% speed
hit
under Rosetta sounds like death to me. I hate to guy a G5 this late
but I
have to stay productive while I pine away for UB version of RB late
in the
year.

Any real life experience on or off list would be really appreciated,
