I'm not in front of my Linux machine right now to test this, but how is that Memory Stick formatted? If it is FAT (which it probably is), then it might not have the Execute bit set. FAT doesn't have the execute bit, but usually there is an option to set the execute bit when you mount a FAT partition. Try doing an 'ls -l' on that app and look at the permissions bits.
