Not true. Apple is trying to steer clear of Type and Creator codes,
but can't drop them as easily as they did resource forks. On OS X, I
call it a bug that RB does not recognize a ".tif" file as matching
the FileType. I mean, what are the extensions for anyways? As well,
RB really gets confused when you are designing a bundle-type document
format, because it's impossible to have a type code assigned!
Don't get me wrong: I do not care what the actual rule is, all I ask is that the
rules are correct, works, and so on.
For the Type and Creator (T & C), if Apple use extensions, they have to have a
rule: use T & C or use extensions...
Go figure: under 10.3.9, if you put a wrong extension and the file type is set
to a different Type, Preview tells: "Unable to open the file (it may be bad)" or
something like that. A drop of that file in a REALbasic application will show
the image file with T & C that is bmp and the MacType is PICT...
Life is not perfect... :)
Cheers,
Emile
