Before you break out the champagne, be aware of bug ztsuceoq.
I wrote my own word-wrapping logic (which includes kerning) because I
couldn't get the LinNumAtCharPos to be stable with different small
font sizes.
This was in 5.5.5 but I don't think the bug will be fixed until they
move to the Cocoa-based edit fields (I don't expect any control-based
bugs to be fixed).
