I can confirm that the MBS plugin works great for MIDI on OS X. I've haven't explored the new MBS methods for Windows MIDI yet; I've written my own with delcares. The one bit of advice that I will give is that whatever you use, make sure that you use a MIDI method that supports time- stamped packets. Doing the timing yourself with some sort of timing loop is extremely difficult and will likely produce inconsistent playback results.
