If you read the dump of an EXPLAIN you should be able to determine
whether and index is or is not useful.
Past experience suggests that :
LIKE '%searchstring%' and LIKE '%searchstring' will not use any index
LIKE 'searchstring%' may use an index (in some engines it does)
LIKE 'searchstring' will frequently use an index
I have not found any definitive documentation on whether SQLite does or
does not but doing this suggest that LIKE will NOT use the index
