I have a 10 MB project with around 300 classes/modules and it takes 20 to 30
seconds to load on a 1.67 G4 PowerBook with 1 GB RAM.  The same project with
all external items takes even longer.

I do have a number of plugins installed but I would have thought that the
processing of those happened when the IDE launched.

I have a couple of extensions but neither of the ones that you or Peter are
using.
