I have noticed that shoes smell and taste differently in different countries. And the owners shout differently depending on in which country I try to eat a shoe. It all depends on whether there is still a foot in the shoe or not. That is why many Europeans are very good at puting the foot in the mouth. They are afraid of us dogs.
