thom, i cant email you directly... apparently our mail servers dated
briefly in college and, well, things didnt work out... while my
server seems to have decided to move on but yours refuses to listen.
all that brings me to this: i'm going to be trapped in a small room
with no internet all day tomorrow - if you email me the bad version,
i can try to beat on it.

My new Mac OS X Search Field seems to be working wonderfully. The

This is all the good news I have.
The bad news is that I seem to be incapable of creating a version
that can be embedded within my HIToolbar class, despite using
Charles Yeomans' version as a guide. I can make it appear and work
just fine in the configure sheet, but cannot be added to the
toolbar without a crash. This has to do with the HIObject subclass
model and events, when REALbasic doesn't handle particularly
gracefully.
Which brings me to my next point. I have a new version of HIToolbar
with incredible usability improvements and new features nearly
ready for release. But once I exported the code, and began building
the example project, I'm getting crashes. Crashes which cannot be
explained. The exact code works in one project, but not the other.
Console has been of no help, as it's reporting a crash at a
specific line of code, regardless of whether or not I remove the
code completely. So I've hit a wall, spent all day on this and
implementing Custom View Toolbar Item support, with no progress.
Currently, I'm tempted to give up on the new toolbar and wait for
the Cocoa support, as I'll have to do this all over again in the
future anyway.
