online MySQL database, ease of use in RB etc. I guess reliability
would probably be the most important factor for me to consider here
although cost would also need to be taken into account.
Any advice or pointers on which 'database' way to go would very
much be appreciated.
I have RB5.5 so this would be the preferred version of RB for me, or
would there be any advantages in upgrading to the current version?
Well I have had fantastic results with RB55 (and RB2006) and SQLlite
plugin Pro. I still use it in 6r2 rather than the REALSQLdatabase,
even though they are written by the same people and REALSQL probably
has more bugs fixed. SQLite is just great. I use it to store
preferences and data. It may be hard to purchase this plugin now as
REAL bought the heart and soul of the programmer and now it is a
REAL product.. Just joking Will L., I know you have a heart of
gold....
It is a single user system. I can't comment on the REAL SQLlite
server. You will need upgrade to RB2006r2 to use REALSQLlite.
The mysql plugin currently works best with mysql v4. I suspect that
there might be a beta version of a new plugin for mysql 5, but who
can say for sure on this public list.
Another good option for Multi-user is OpenBase. I haven't tried
Valentina but is seems to be well supported.
