Probably has a lot to do with Text Encoding. Val probably wants ASCII and the macOS editfield probably contains UTF-16, thus necessitating a text encoding conversion.
And since RB calculates the for loop termination value EVERYTIME through the loop, it means that you were doing 100000 expensive text encoding conversions too.
