Ho, I thinked your first post was a joke, ( why do you have a mail
like myrblistbox@ ??? )
you are really an aristocrat WASP programmer...
If you consider what you are doing boring you should consider doing
something else =)
REALbasic can be used for much more than "filling
listboxes".
That's absolutely true.
I've done some projects having a lot of fun, but some time of my work
is related to db or spread sheet handling, and this involves a lot od
use of listboxes.
This kind of work can be nice, but sometimes can be boring, too...
this is WORK, baby...
If you are so distant from this kind of "dirty" work let me think that:
1) you could be very young;
2) Your family left you ( or is still giving you ) enough money to
stay away from a real job;
3) you're a genious ( but usually a genious is less presumptuous )
If some oh this points ( or combination of them ) matches your
person, I'm very happy for you :)
I personally use it a lot for stuff like making coloring
books for kids ( http://fastrabbitsoftware.com/coloring_book.htm ).
a perfectly useless stuff in my opinion: little kids should stay away
from computers, and draw on real paper whit real colours...
Your insinuation was that filling the listbox was THE primary purpose
for ALL of us. I'm more interested in faster flood fill on Linux
than the speed of filling the listbox.
I was only pointing that there was big performance difference between
Mc and Windows on some tasks, then I discovered that the difference
was not in the listbox but in other kind of operations, but that was
only a simple consideration due to the fact that the difference was
really big, without any intention to blame REAL Software for
something or pretend they focus their next upgrades on making my 5
lines of code run faster on macs....
It's interesting that you mention boring and artificial
intelligence. I'll be graduating with a masters degree in software
engineering from DePaul in about 7 weeks. When I first enrolled I
was admitted to the program with my focus declared as artificial
intelligence. After just a bit I decided that AI was actually pretty
boring and switched to a software engineering (project development/
management) focus.
well, this could confirm my conjecture 1 and 2...
As far as rockets... I do know a guy that has a job lined up with
NASA, but that's about it.
Well, ok, you got me. I live in Italy and don't know nobody in the
NASA :(
So all in all what does this have to do with REALbasic... only that
serious people that do some serious, fun, and interesting things work
with RB to do a lot more than just fill listboxes.
serious people do whichever thing permits them to make the money to
live happily and honestly...
Have a great day,
John
for me this thread is close
Have a nice life,
Giulio
