I've been reading Aaron Ballman's log on the topic of why Windows apps should store their prefs in the registry vs. in .INI files. Ok, I'm convinced--I want my RB apps to store their prefs in the registry. But I'm a Mac/Unix guy. Where do I start?
This is currently what the app I'm porting to RB does and I would just offer some words from personal experience... I know it's Microsoft's recommendation that you store user prefs, keys etc in the registry but I've had several users who want to use my software from a USB Memory key as they move around different computers. Storing everything in the registry makes this process very difficult unless you include a feature to save and restore the registry info for the user. I far prefer the Mac way of installing things - i.e., drag this folder here to install etc. All the best, Mark. _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe or switch delivery mode: <http://www.realsoftware.com/support/listmanager/> Search the archives of this list here: <http://support.realsoftware.com/listarchives/lists.html>
