you can .... but at this point SSLSocket is not capable of listening in secure mode.

The whole point of a ServerSocket, and the only thing it does for you, is that it listens on a port, and when an incoming connection comes in, it passes it off to one of the normal sockets in the pool of waiting sockets that it keeps around. It then resumes listening on the original port, all of which happens very quickly, so that the next caller doesn't get a busy signal. That's all there is to it.
