This may depend on the database you use, but in general the answer should definitely be "no." (Indexes are what speed things up and they don't care about the binary data.)

I have a table with records that contain 0-5 images each. These can be JPGs, BMPs, etc. Is there any advantage to removing the images to a separate table in terms of speed of searching of the non-image data?
