FYI I have a freeware app that generates 2 to 3,000 downloads a year (which doesn't mean these are actual new users) and the MacPad traffic for it is about 1 MB a month.

(The prefs allow for a daily check or no checking.)

Just some thinking...

Yeah, that is basic math. That is a bandwidth of 120 MB per month per 1000 apps outside and assuming that your app qualifies for very curious customers checking for a new version every day. If they do it once a week the bandwidth is 17 MB per 1000 apps and month.

So lets say you will sell 1 million applications, that will result in a terrifying bandwidth of 17 GB per month. On the other side: aren't you quite rich after selling 1 million copies?

Hi,
But how often and how many download sites and 'News sites' check the file? As I know the download sites is very hard working to be the first and best... Are they scanning 20 times a day? or 100 times a day?? ...

Selling 1 million copies, if I sell 1 million copies, how many 'Trial apps' checking my file? 10 million! So then it being red digits in the book...
