Not For nothing, mister.

You dont know how a serial communication work. When you do that with windows or mac, there is a layer that do the work for you (dial, send password, eteblish ppp comunication and receive ip address and after the datas). When you do that manually, where are the informations.

You have to read this : http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1661.txt and some other docs on network.

So it's normal that you receive strange information after.

A modem is just a maner to transform an information (serial to telephone line). on side send (MOdulator) other side receive (DEModulator). You call that a MODEM because you can send and receive.

I dont have to much time to receive, but i think that you have to make a function to analyse those incomprehensible datas that represents normal ppp datas.

I dont want to be offensive, but i think you have not a good knowledge of netowrks (i have a little knowledge of network, i'm CISCO certified).

Emile, this call,

Serial1.Write("ATI0" + ChrB(13)+ChrB(10))

produces this answer for me.

56000
With a PowerBook 15" 1.5GHz alu, modem build before August 2004 ?
[I got 960 there; but I have many troubles with the modem connected to the internet; so troubles that I have to use a Pentium IV machine to do that... disconnect (modem hangup it says) after from some 30 seconds to some minutes...]

I tried ATZ - no success-; AT&F (factory reset) - no success - I'm lost :(

And if I might ask a question from this thread to the NUG. After I send my name and password I get this message from the server,

Exiting shell, and starting PPP session.

This is followed by gobbledy gook,

~=9D}#=BF!}!}!} }8}!}$}%=D0}"}&} }*} } }%}&G=A0/0}'}"}(}"=DF}4~~=9D}#=BF!}!}"}
}8}!}$}%=D0}"}&} }*} } }%}&G=A0/0}'}"}(}"=CC=DC~~=9D}#=BF!}!}#} ... etc.

I've tried at this point spawning a new instance of TCPSocket with no
results. Perhaps I need the secure, pro only Rb, version to continue?
