Try associating the file with the newest version (using get info) and then log out and back in... I had the same problem when upgrading to a new machine and the Finder tried to open every Office app with the demo version (which I did not want to purchase)... And it would fail every time after the trial period was over. Even after THROWING OFFICE AWAY! Yay!

When you make the association, you can command the finder to do it with all files of that type. It was the logging out and back in that actually made it stick for me, though.

Well that has nothing to do with it, nor with RB for that matter -- that's just the Finder being stupid. It's been that way, from time to time, for 16 years or so now. Just launch the copy of RB you prefer first, and subsequent double-clicks of RB documents will open in that.
