David,
Thanks for the heads up on Mac's as I am using a PC. It is strange though
why there is NO .dll for the USB port as there is for the LPT when using Win
NT, 2000 or XP.
I did check out those sites and I think the ActiveWare Inc site has my vote
as it's CHEAP and it can be used on any platform so if one compiles for Win,
a Mac version can be done asap. Oh did I mention it's CHEAP too! :)
I am going to see if Aaron's InpOut32.DLL will work in RB as he does have a
simple project that does seem to work. But now to translate the old
Rapid-Q/QuickBasic code to the new RB one.
Steve Garman of the RealBasic Forums had this post: "If you're using Windows
exclusively, Aaron's got some hints on accessing the parallell port using
inpout32.dll at
http://www.aaronballman.com/programming/REALbasic/InpOut32RB.php "
But I will keep ActiveWare Inc site handy.
Thanks
Jonathon

Good luck! I have bought three different USB-parallel adaptors, but none
would allow generic programming of the parallel output using RB on a Mac.
Maybe they would on a PC, I don't know. Keyspan's UP-6C came the closest,
in that it would work with OSX, but it only supports specific printers, and
I could get no help for Keyspan's tech support in figuring out how to use it
to define the parallel bits from RB. They do not support a generic printer.
I finally decided to use ActiveWire's USB-I/O board $59 at
http://www.activewireinc.com/. He has been promising an OSX driver for a
few years now, but Dave Keck supplies a $6 driver that works better for OSX
than Activewire's does for OS9
(http://www.docdave.com/apps/activewire.html).
With this driver and the ActiveWire board, you can control (or read) 16 bits
of IO simply by writing to and reading from the RB serial port. If you are
working with a PC, you should not have any trouble finding equivalent
hardware for that platform. For example, see

of the OLD and Tired out LPT and Serial ports?
HELP!
Thanks
