It's been awhile since I went down to this lower level, so I can't
remember the specifics. As I recall, you'll either load a midi file
into a musicsequence or add events manually to the sequence. Then,
you can iterate through the list of events in the sequence and
extract the stuff that you need.

you're trying to accomplish, maybe I can help put together a demo
project to show how this works.
