I agree, it would be nice to have at least the += and ++ operators. The classic argument that they are not part of the BASIC syntax is quite weak today, since most of what the RB language provides was not available in the original basic in the first place. Also, those operators are available in all the most used modern languages, such as Java, C#, Obj-C, and C/C++ of course, so adding them to the RB syntax would make RB *easier* to learn for anyone with at least a bit of programming background.
And let me add VB.NET to this list, which is not so unimportant, because "RS's major focus has been to attract Visual Basic users", as an analyst wrote to me recently.
