Are you saying that the developer had the key generator code
in his class instead of just checking the key against an MD5 hash
for example? If that's the case then that in itself is bad practice
as you should never - under any circumstance - have code in
your class / app that can generate key codes.
And in fact, the overall process is basic, since we all know
of public key cryptography. While RB doesn't come with such
crypto classes, MBS' plugin has enough features to manage the
whole process quite good.
I've developed code in Cocoa and later ported a similar schema
to RB. Not a really big job.
