They are extremely different tools, but I think there are also a larger communal set of customers as well as purists. At last year's RevCon West, which happens again very soon in Monterey (http://www.revconwest.com) I had attended to show off Valentina XCMD (now Valentina for Revolution). It was very interesting because the "purist" user is quite different. Very often their goal isnt to become a programmer in the traditional sense - at least how they got into it. More usual was the desire simply to get something made quickly and easily. There is a very strong solutions over technology notion there. Its more likely a "purist" REALbasic user wanted to become a programmer from the get-go or came over from another low level tool like VB. That's a very attractive feature of REALbasic. Since Paradigma also sells solutions for Director, .net, Cocoa, etc, its given me a better appreciation of the "non-purist" - and there was a larget segment of folks at RevCon West that use REALbasic, Director, VB and Revolution (or newbies to Revolution who wanted a really good crash course - there's a beginners track). These non-purists don't get very emotional about tools because simply, they have to deliver solutions to their customers and they use the right tool for the right job. From a third party tool perspective, which is where Paradigma lives - well, this is a great customer segment :-) And by the way, if you have HATED Rev's interface, its worth checking out the forthcoming Galaxy tool and currently shipping Constellation tool from Daniels & Mara. Because of how Rev is structured, you can completely replace the IDE with your own. That's exactly what you get with Galaxy/Constellation.
