You already get the answer you were asking.Mine is different and is just a - good - advice:

"never assume that someone will do something free for you"

so, once you do not need the temporary file, just delete it!

You then will never get tons of temp files if in the future (like what I saw in the past) one OS will forget to clears the temporary files...

It seems to me that there is a place on OS X where I can put temporary files (they are deleted after restart).

Where is it located?

Is there the same thing for Windows?
