Never heard of an OS shell, I call it a 'initial' process. But
anyway, fork, exec* or something like that is quite common.
If you ever use Terminal that's a shell, but it's also got you inside
a command interpreter (sh, csh, bash, etc)
They're not one and the same.
It IS possible to start a shell without running a command interpreter
which is what the RB Shell appears to be doing.
