For Regex, check also my plugins which do ReplaceAll much faster.
My plugin already has many character set functions, many times faster
than RB's regex.

it is running around 150x faster than RB.
As for UTF-8, my plugin has the MSR class, which can do UTF-8 search
and replace for charactersets...
I have a Unicode based uppercaser and lowercaser for example! My
Unicode case changing code handles over 200 characters that RB
misses, including the German ß !
Hard to beat eh?
