It is fast enought for a 128 x 128 pixels image (icon in my original

PS: I will try to send tomorrow the real code just in case...

I tested it with a 816*616 image.. that might explain the difference... I'l enlarged it to see what happends, and now it took a few seconds.. about 5.
It's still not very much... if you want to use it in a drawing program,
people are used to waiting 5 seconds (at least I am...)

Based on my experience supporting graphic designers, people will wait for almost anything given two conditions:

A) They can see that progress is being made, and
B) They are confident that the operation will be successful.

So,

A) Give feedback that progress is being made, and
B) Pre-flight your lengthy process to make sure it has enough information/resources to succeed, and bail out early if it cannot finish its task.

Maarten, you see what I meant. I am not as 'patient' as you are; some seconds is too long wait ...

Eric,

you are correct; I have to implement a progress bar (for example) to make the user wait (and not thinking there's a crash!).

All and all... thank you all for your feedback,

Emile

PS: the code ? this afternoon; I am not very efficient the morning (the code is still in the other portable...)
