A thread slows down the process VERY significantly. Move it away from
the thread, remove the progress bar, draw a simple rectangle and fill
it.
See a roughly 8 month old posting of me. I mentioned, that threads
and certain
other visual components slow down the speed of execution - at least
in 5.5.5.
Don't know, if this is still valid in current releases.
