For multiple reasons, including time constraints and lack of user
interest, I have decided to cease development and hosting of The
Athenaeum. The domain, theathenaeum.org, is currently set to expire
on the 12th of November, 2006. I do not have a time frame for
removing The Athenaeum's content, but it will not be within the next
month.
Any of the exceptionally few authors linking to The Athenaeum are
urged to find a new solution, before I break the links for you.
I am interested in potentially handing over the name and idea to a
new owner. However, due to a difficult, proprietary, and incomplete
backend, the actual code to power The Athenaeum cannot be made
available. Taking control of The Athenaeum would require starting
over from scratch, with my welcome assistance. If requested/required,
I would not object to continued hosting of The Athenaeum either.
Please respond off-list with serious inquires only.
In retrospect, I should have done many things better, things I had
created for a new version of The Athenaeum which I never completed.
The project never saw the user momentum I was hoping for, so I
eventually lost interest as did my users. Better projects, such as
assistance with Zooomr.com and my own development took precedence so
it's time I hand the project to someone new, or let it die.
