In the UK you can buy direct from FTDI (www.ftdichip.com) as demonstration boards. These can act as simple USB to serial converters (UM232) or FIFO (parallel type output, UM245) devices.
You can access them (both devices) using either: a - A virtual serial port driver available from their web site (Win/Mac/Linux) and therefore using RBs built in serial control b - Direct drivers (would require declares into their D2XX drivers (Win only), or 3rd party drivers (Linux, limited Mac support). Using this it is even possible to use a microprocessor style bitbang output mode, I have RB classes for doing this on Mac if you reuire them. The bitbang mode would give the simplest hardware design (using UM245, but possible with UM232), virtual serial port would require (slightly) harder hardware design, but easier software. Hope this helps, Ben. On 04/07/06, Giles Williams <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Hi. Where can I find one of these to buy in the UK? And is it easy to do what I explained? Regards, Giles Williams, QLE Internet Services (http://www.qlehosting.com/).
