I don't think the point of Mathematica is to report the Binary representation of a floating point number, but instead the goal is to calculate the numeric value at a greater precision than standard math ops. Mathematica is for scientists and engineers where a precision error of 1.0e-50 could mean the difference between life and death (think NASA).
