I'm really busy and about to go on holiday but check out the
StyledTextXML example at http://www.oofile.com.au/
downloads.html#DownloadREALbasic which is a rewrite of the original
(none portable) RS example for styled text.
I think it had colours as three separate attributes which I now
encode in an HTML-style colour constant but otherwise am probably
still using that code robustly, albeit for relatively small amounts
of text.
