Wouldn't the simplest answer be to allow the user to set the
preferred editor in the preferences.
The default preference would be the RB internal editor.
RB could focus on creating the best language / compiler / interface
design environment and relagate the eternal search for the best
editor (which everyone should realize is vi :) to the individual user.

One last thought. What if you could bind a key to a RBScript and
that script could work on the current selection and then replace
it with the results of the script. Or the script could actually
use the editing commands to move the cursor and change the
selection and then do something. The mind is boggled with the
possibilities.
Frankly, I don't want to design the user interface to tools that I
use, nor do I want to have to configure keyboard shortcuts. I
expect that the tool developer would have done all that workfor me.
I just want to use a simple interface that's straightforward and
requires little memorization.
Drag and drop editing is my friend and I wish RB supported that a
little better.
