No, because RB lets you compile this:

Dim rc as new rectcontrol

So, what would be a good example? Say, you want to create a world simulation
program (anyone?). The first class you create might be called "thing". The
thing-class has, say, a weight property. But you don't want it to be
instantiable because things aren't just things they are "umbrellas", "phone
bills" and such. The umbrella-class should inherit from the thing class
somewhere down the line.

To prevent you from accidently saying

dim MyUmbrella as new thing

you give the thing class a private constructor.
