I saw the babbage engine in the British Science museum a while back when in
London with my nephews - there was a section dedicated to the history of
computers - an amazing sight ( for a geek anyway )  - to see those hand made
magnetic cores etc. All the precision engineering ( elecrical and mechanical
) was awe inspiring.

They even a working mechanical "analogue" computer -

 We have it all so easy these days.
