just a thought on language, if someone contacts you because their
software is "broken" as a result of it using a cracked serial you
then have the opportunity to say something like:
"Unfortunately the person who sold that software to you had stolen
it. Here's the information for police report, if you wish to pursue
it (link to your page listing known cracked serial numbers). However,
we are willing to treat you in good faith as an existing customer so
you are entitled to the normal 40% off (or whatever) upgrade for the
next version. Here's your interim serial number, based on your credit
card."
