Hello. I'm a blind user, trying to use RB 2.1 demo under os 8.
Where can
I get docs for this? Maybe I can get 5.5 for os 8.1, if I can only
find
the docs for these old versions.
REAL Software recently changed the mechanism to get old versions of
their software and documentation. Previously it was available from
ftp.realsoftware.com
Here's their new process:
Where are the old versions of REALbasic?
We provide only the current version of REALbasic and one version
prior for download. We do not provide older versions for download
because many of them have been the target of piracy.
You can try and fight piracy OR implement policies that make it work
to your advantage.
Several successful companies have done this once upon a time.
Borland with early versions of Turbo Pascal basically let you pirate
it because it was more or less useless without the manuals.
So they'd get you hooked and buy it to get the manuals.
Microsoft also did this once upon a time.
Word was widely pirated on Mac OS early one and MS did, at one point
make an "amnesty" offer to pirates where you could "upgrade" to a
legitimate copy for a fee (I think it was $50 to $100) They got a
huge new pile of users on the upgrade treadmill and these users got
NOTHING extra (no doc, no CD's nothing more than a real registration
code and their name on MS mailing lists for new upgrades)
I'm glad I've kept a lot of my old RB cd's and can avoid this entirely
