Firstly... I think you should give up.

Unless you want a slow solution.

Or do it in C, and be prepared to use some mind bending algorithms to optimise it ;)

It's not going to be fast in RB, that is all. You need low level access for it to be fast. You could petition for RB to have C-like pointers, perhaps... and to get pointer access to pictures also. And an optimising compiler that is good at optimising pointer code.

i say meh. meh, meh, meh :)

realbasic wont be the fastest thing around, but the nice thing about video is the goal is realtime. if it's 30fps, there's no real need for improvement. doing this kind of thing in rb leads you pretty far form the framework, but it's not impossible. and i use no plugins either. I've done stereoscopic depth mapping(processing 2 video cams into a 3d model of the terrain) at 10fps, realtime road detection, and motion interpolation. I've got another project I can't discuss on the list, but if you want a sample of what's possible in realtime, email me offlist.

there's no reason we can do mind bending algorithms in RB :)

with liberal doses of declares, realtime video work is doable in RB, but its not an entry level sort of thing. (but then again neither is doing it in c).
