Erm, no actually. The syntax makes optimisations almost impossible.
Is it sensible to do this:
for i = 0 to n
c = p.LongValue(i*4)
next
or this:
for i = 0 to n
c = *p++
next
The first one needs multiplication, the second doesn't.
RB would need proper pointer types to get speed equal to C.
