Andrew Barry had an OS9-compatible plugin, for PPC, which I had – technically I still have it but since I don't do OS9 anymore... – however he never carbonized it [one of the reasons being that he lost the source, or so he told me in an email], and went on to other projects. There was also a companion project to disassemble PPC code.
I guess one could write an inline assembler in RB which would stuff the code inside a MemoryBlock, and pass a pointer to the memblock to an external routine [a dylib, a plugin] to execute the code. It would make for a fun project. -- dda libcurl4RB, [S]FTP transfers made easy http://sungnyemun.org/?q=node/8 On 10/2/06, Mike Woodworth <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
i seem to remember seeing a plugin years ago for calling asm from rb. i can't find it now, but i was hoping the heavyweights on the list might be able to come up with a means by which i could get a poor mans asm inlining from RB. I dont have the comp sci creds to fall back on, but i seem to remember the plugin would take a region of memory filled with machine code and mark it as executable, then allow you to call it as a method. is this something that could be done nowadays with declares? i only need os x support. mike -- Mike Woodworth [EMAIL PROTECTED]
